The practice is often known in the West today as\u00a0Whirling dervish dance<\/strong>, the dance of the whirling dervishes. It is linked to the teachings of the great Persian mystic poet Jal\u0101l ad-D\u012bn R\u016bm\u012b, whose poetry celebrates love, spiritual ecstasy, and movement as pathways to self-knowledge.<\/p>
